This antique Springfield Armory M1873/1884 Trapdoor Rifle , Serial 356969, is an authentic Arsenal Rebuild with SWP 1884 Cartouche. Cambered in 45/70, this firearm is a textbook example of a late Indian Wars-era official U.S. Arsenal Rebuilt weapon, exhibiting an an honest mix of period-correct components that document the firearm’s service life. The serial number officially dates the receiver's manufacture to May or June of 1887. The breechblock features a crisp "U.S. MODEL 1873" stamping, which is highly desirable as it sits right at the chronological tail-end of the 1873-stamped production line. The left side of he stock features a visible "SWP 1884" inspector cartouche on the wrist. This indicates it was officially accepted into service by Springfield Armory's legendary Master Armorer, Samuel W. Porter, in 1884. The barrel is equipped with the iconic Model 1879 simple folding ladder rear sight. The breechblock is the structurally improved high-arched underside variant. The trigger features the standard serrated/grooved trigger surface adopted by the armory during the mid-1883 updates. The original metal surface show signs of wear and thinning with no corrosion or pitting. The bore shows strong rifling and rates a good 8 of 10. Strong hammer spring and fully functional.
