This Eddystone Model 1917 rifle was manufactured around June 1918, during peak World War I production at the Eddystone Arsenal in Pennsylvania. When WWII broke out, the military pulled these rifles from storage in order to be issued to stateside guards, training camps or foreign allies. This rifle bears evidence of a rebuild as indicated by the "JA" stamp on the barrel meaning a replacement by Johnson Automatics, one of several contractors used during the war for arsenal rebuilds. This barrel has a 6 of 10 bore rating showing some minor pitting and general use wear. The "AAC" over "AAP" stamps on the stock, confirms the rifle went through a multi-stage overhaul at the Augusta Arsenal in Georgia during or shortly after World War II. The receiver and many of the small parts are original Eddystone as indicated by the "E" letter stamping. The "W" stamp on the front sight and bolt indicate "Winchester" replacement parts. This rifle would be considered an "Augusta Arsenal Mixmaster" having both the AAP and AAC stock stamps explicitly tracing its military chain of custody.
