Product Description

Great condition, 1945, No 5 Mk 1 .22 Caliber Trainer. Measures 29-3/4" overall with a 20-3/4" barrel. LOP is 13-1/4". Bore rates a strong 8 of 10. Non matching numbers.

This rifle started life in 1945 as a standard .303 British Jungle Carbine at the Fazakerley factory. Shortly after the war (around 1947), it was professionally converted to a .22 caliber rimfire trainer. The presence of official British caliber markings and proof styles suggest this may be an official post-war military/constabulary training conversion or a very early, highly professional commercial conversion done directly in the UK before being exported. The receiver shows standard ROF Fazakerley military production marks from 1945, as it left the factory as a standard .303 British service carbine. This specific rifle is currently chambered in .22 caliber, and is a post-war conversion. The markings on the barrel shank confirm that this rifle was legally and officially converted into a small-bore rimfire rifle under British proof laws. The "K/47" stamp is an inspector, date, or assembly marking, indicating the conversion or a barrel swap likely took place around 1947, shortly after the rifle's initial 1945 production.
